Green Energy Act May 14 2009

The Green Energy Act, May 14 2009, was passed in the Legislature. The Act places a priority on expanding Ontario’s use of clean and renewable sources of energy including wind, water, solar, biomass and biogas power. Developing these renewable resources is a cornerstone of this province’s future prosperity.

The Act will encourage new investment in renewable energy sources, helping to create a stronger, greener economy and well-paying green jobs.

Equally important, the Act will help to combat climate change and reduce air pollution, creating a healthier future for current and future generations.

The Act allows for the creation of provincial standards, including requirements and setbacks for renewable energy projects to be identified in regulation. These requirements and setbacks will be developed in consultation with Ontarians to ensure protection of the environment and human health.
